Carleton College Carleton College was founded by the Minnesota Conference of Congregational Churches, under the name of Northfield College, on November 14, 1866. Carleton College is one of the premier institutions of higher education in the United States. A nationally ranked undergraduate college, Carleton enrolls approximately 1,900 students. Carleton offers a four-year baccalaureate degree in 33 majors. Its graduates assume leadership positions in the sciences, business, government, education, and the arts.
