Duquesne University of the Holy Spirit is a Catholic University that was founded on Oct. 1, 1878, by the Rev. Joseph Strub and the Congregation of the Holy Ghost (the Spiritans). They opened as the Pittsburgh Catholic College with 40 students and six faculty members. Today, Duquesne serves God by serving students – through commitment to excellence in liberal and professional education, through profound concern for moral and spiritual values, through the maintenance of an ecumenical atmosphere open to diversity, and through service to the Church, the community, the nation, and the world.
Quiet and secure, Duquesne’s campus of green lawns and tree-lined walkways features a variety of architectural styles in residence halls, academic buildings and recreation facilities. All are within easy walking distance and just steps away from the entertainment and learning opportunities of Pittsburgh.
