Fisk University Fisk University is one of the nation’s pre-eminent minority colleges. Founded in 1866, the university is the oldest in Nashville, Tennessee. Its distinguished alumni include educators, artists, thinkers and public servants such as W.E.B. Du Bois, James Weldon Johnson, Aaron Douglas, John Hope Franklin, Nikki Giovanni, U.S. Representatives John Lewis and Alcee Hastings and former U.S. Secretary of Energy Hazel O’Leary.
