Northwest Iowa Community College was started in 1966 as a pilot program sponsored by the Department of Education in cooperation with the local high schools. NCC celebrated its 40th anniversary in April of 2006.The College exists to provide lifelong learning opportunities to the people in the counties of Lyon, O’Brien, Sioux, Osceola, and Cherokee. NCC has an “ open-door” policy for all persons of post-high school age. Admission is granted on the basis of an individual’s interest, aptitude, previous experience, career objective, and ability to benefit. The College is located on a 263 acre campus along Highway 18 on the west side of Sheldon. Sheldon, Iowa is located at the intersection of U.S. Highway 60 and Iowa State Highway 18 in the far northwest part of the state.
