University courses at UConn Avery Point

UConn Avery Point As the University of Connecticut’s Campus by the Sea, Avery Point will continue to strive to become the top combined marine and maritime undergraduate/graduate research and teaching program in the country. Through its strong academic programs the campus will continue to educate undergraduate and graduate students who will provide the nation and its international partners with a talented marine and maritime workforce. This workforce will contribute marine science and maritime expertise to local, regional, national, and international segments of the regional and national economies. To support this international marine/maritime mission, the campus will continue to develop research and programmatic excellence in the natural and physical sciences as they apply to the study of the coastal ocean. Bachelor's degree programs in coastal and maritime studies serve as the undergraduate centerpoint of the UConn Avery Point marine/maritime mission. Master's and doctoral degrees in oceanography provide the graduate centerpoint of the campus mission programs. The campus will balance its mission by continuing to develop humanities and social science curricula as they pertain to coastal and maritime policy and to the historical, cultural, and industrial components of American society. These broader aspects of the campus mission are represented by degree programs in American Studies, the Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) program, and by a strong general education program.
