Birmingham has been challenging and developing great minds for more than a century. Characterised by a tradition of innovation, research at the University has broken new ground, pushed forward the boundaries of knowledge and made an impact on people’s lives.
We continue this tradition today and have ambitions for a future that will embed our work and recognition of the Birmingham name on the international stage.
Birmingham in 2010
In 2010 Birmingham continues to break new ground. We were proud to be selected by the BBC as the venue for the final Prime Ministerial Debate, which was watched by an average audience of 8.1 million viewers across the UK.
The leaders of the three biggest parties –Gordon Brown, David Cameron and Nick Clegg – took to the podium in the historic surroundings of our Great Hall, to debate the economy; arguably the most talked about topic on the UK election trail.
