CHED evaluators visit UIC on June 24, 2010 to assess specific areas of interest in relation to the application of UIC’s Education Program to be one of the region’s Center of Excellence. Areas assessed are as follows: student services, administration on the University level, research and publication, faculty, laboratory and instruction. Comments of note given by the evaluators which boosted points for the Education Program are in the areas of Student Services and Community Services which CHED evaluators observed are strong and very commendable. Research and publication area is observed to be relatively strong. The evaluator for students commended UIC for its comparative higher than the national percentage passing rate of LET examinees and could air for an even higher passing rate. Further, an observation raised was the appointment of new personnel in key positions, who, in spite of their being new to positions, were able to put their act together. On the area of faculty, it was noted that 100% holds a master degree while seven faculty members are in their dissertation phase. The evaluator for the laboratory facilities of UIC was highly impressed saying that UIC is observed to be overwhelming in its compliance with laboratory requirements of CHED and could have been the reason why UIC was chosen from among the many applicants to be inspected for COE. UIC’s Education Program as one of the region’s Center of Excellence poses a challenge and bigger responsibilities for member educators of the Program. This historical landmark confirms the Education Program as one of the best Programs in this University that will produce quality future teachers that are integrated, God-centered, nationalistic, innovative, transformative, excellent and service-oriented (IGNITES).
