You can apply for a student visa, the route to follow and requirements to meet will depend on your financial situation and the level of the course you want to study.
- You have to apply for "entry clearance" before leaving your country.
- If you are coming for no more than six months and you are not a visa national you can apply for a "student visitor", but factor in that student visitors are more restricted and cannot, by any means, work even if the job is unpaid and that it is not possible to extend the visa.
- If you want to apply for a "student visitor" you must be at least 18 years old, prove that your financial situation will allow you to maintain yourself so you will not have to work. You have to show that the college/university has already accepted you and that it is accredited by the UK Border Agency or the Register of Education and Training Providers.
- Your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) is valid for 6 months from the moment it was issued by your university/college.
- If your visa application is refused you will have to ask your institution for a new CAS in order to apply again.
- You have to make sure you can have all the documentation required (Tier 4) before submitting an immigration application.
- It is possible to deduct accommodation amount from the amount that has to be shown in the Tier 4 application as long as you can show the receipts (payments must be made to Tier 4 sponsors directly).
- In some instances it is possible to bring your family.
- You ALWAYS need to register with the police.
- You cannot be inside the UK whenever you need to apply for "entry clearance".
- Overstaying or overworking will always have consequences for further clearance applications and immigration applications.
- You should only claim welfare benefits when you qualify for them.
